The Clay Studio presents "Collectors' Choice" opening Sunday, February 8th from 2-5 PM. The exhibition continues thru February 28th. Gallery hours are Monday thru Friday 2 to 6 PM, Saturday 1 to 4 PM.
"Collectors' Choice" features works selected from the private collections of The Clay Studio Board of Directors. Each board member has been requested to submit a piece which reflects their interest in clay and connection to the work of The Clay Studio. Fortunately for the public, The Clay Studio's Board includes some of the most prominent gallery owners, collectors, and clay artists in the city. Included in the show will be pieces from the collections of gallery owners: Helen Drutt, Richard Rosenfeld, and Ruth and Rick Snyderman; private collectors: Harvey Gushner, Anne Wollman, and Barbara and Bert Horowitz; and noted clay artists: William Daley, Jill Bonowitz, Rudi Staffel, Robert and Paula Winokur, Ken Vavrek and Liz Stewart.
The emphasis of the show is not to exhibit the most expensive or well-known pieces available, but rather pieces that the collector feels personally connected with, and would like to share with the public. The admittedly eclectic selection should hopefully offer some insight into the nature of collecting and the key roles personal taste, friendships, and individual choice play in one's relationship with art.
Also featured at the opening reception will be an auction of over 40 pieces from the private ceramic collection of the late John R. Angell. The collection was donated to The Clay Studio in order to initiate a scholorship fund.
