Susan Arnhold: Teapots

Sep 12th - Oct 4th, 1986

Resident Artist Solo Exhibition: Susan Arnhold.

The Clay Studio is pleased to present "Teapots", a solo exhibit by Clay Studio Resident Artist Susan Arnhold, to inaugurate its 1986-87 season. The exhibit runs from September 12th through October 4th. Ms. Arnhold's functional stoneware continues a long tradition and reaffirms the spiritual joy that beautiful pottery brings to man's daily existance.

Ms. Arnhold took up pottery after receiving her BA from Temple University. Drawn to this field she pursued her study of the material at Cheltenham Art Center and the Arrowmont School of Crafts, studying with John Gill, David Nelson, Syd Carpenter and others. She presently teaches at the University City Arts League, Cheltenham Art Center and The Clay Studio.

"My goal is to make well-crafted, functional pottery which is handled by people," Ms. Arnhold says. "I find myself drawn to the 'classic' forms... using glazes that I choose because of their depth - at each new turn there is yet another color or marking one didn't see before. I like the idea that a daily activity - eating ice cream, serving a casserole - can be enhanced by a handcrafted, individual piece of pottery."
